As a result of Industry 4.0, the role of humans and their relevance in manufacturing has been a hot topic of conversation. While it’s true that we’re seeing more quantifiable processes being managed by Robotic Process Automation (RPA), this comes with an increase in roles that require empathetic and creative skills. What are they?

We probably all think we know what AI is. We have images of chess-playing robots, and probably even Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Terminator in the most extreme examples. But think again, where do you draw the line between established technologies and AI?

If you’ve simplified your processes and still have gaps which require mundane, repetitive manual activity, it’s time to consider Robotic Process Automation in your finance system. If you can write a process down, the chances are it can be automated, leaving your existing workforce with more time to focus on the exceptions.

Criminals are frequently amongst the first to use new technologies for their own nefarious means, and industries struggle to keep one step ahead to plug security gaps. As we see the accelerating rollout of machine learning, we are now seeing people both use it and exploit it in order to override common security tools.

Getting started with Robotic Process Automation isn’t rocket science really, but it’s about to get a whole lot harder. There is no one journey that everyone passes through with RPA; however, looking at Centre of Excellence growth across multiple industries, I am confident we would see a clear pattern emerge.

The pandemic has accelerated key aspects of automation, and related products and services look set to continue their growth well beyond 2027. There is a long-held fear that our hard-learned skills will shortly become redundant as we are replaced by our robot overlords, but that doesn’t necessarily mean unemployment. Could automation actually lead to more jobs?

Robots are digital workers. Digital workers work with digital data. The clue is in the name. I’m being flippant but it is an important point when considering automation. Robotic Process Automation is really at the core of automation technologies and is often the starting point for organisations wanting to drive productivity quickly. The challenge is that few organisations are entirely...

When deploying automation, the overall objective should be to provide improved employment for workers, and society as a whole. Factors such as wellbeing and self-development should be the overriding objective. Automation must result in net employment growth for the economy. More jobs should be forthcoming as a result of improved productivity than are lost from it. It is critical that the...

Most large companies will by now have some form of RPA embedded, and if they don’t, they will be looking at it (if you’re not, where have you been the past 5 years?). The market is still expanding quickly but some analysts predict saturation within the next 2-5 years. Most of us now know what RPA is, and what its capable of, so what’s next for Automation? The term Hyperautomation was touted,...

According to the World Economic Forum (WEF), automation and COVID-19 are causing the labour market to experience “double disruption”, which is exacerbating the growing global skills emergency. As we navigate this new world, it’s humans - not machines - that are still the most valuable asset to any organisation, and leaders must do everything they can to secure the future of the world’s...

The pandemic is continuing to put tremendous pressure on HR functions around the world as they work to prioritise the wellbeing, productivity and engagement of their people, all whilst operating in a very different world. Both how and where we work is changing at lightning speed, potentially for good, so it’s even more important that HR professionals choose the right HR tech solutions to...

We all strive to deliver the best possible experience and service to each of our customer groups. Artificial intelligence (AI) is developing as a method in increasing the efficiency of providing that experience, but in doing so it also requires data to inform machine learning.   How do we demonstrate the value of AI, so that people are comfortable to share richer data? What are the...
